Arsenal are reportedly facing a £30m offer for Theo Walcott, which, even if they don’t want to sell, has to be accepted. If it’s real. Because that is way too much.

Arsenal’s longest-tenured man Theo Walcott supposedly wants to stay and fight for his place at his long-time club. Which is something that I find tremendously admirable seeing as how the 2018 World Cup is coming up and Walcott seemingly has nowhere to fit into that Arsenal starting XI in the 3-4-2-1 formation.

I found it so admirable that I was willing to forego the idea of selling him for £15m or so just to see how he steps up to the challenge.

And then came the reports that Everton might be willing to pay £30m for the English attacker, offering him a new lease on life at a club that is sure to give him every opportunity in the world, if for no other reason than because they invested so much in him.

Let’s be clear about something – that is far too much to pay for Walcott. Transfermarkt.com has him at a £15m valuation, which I find fair and just. That is a solid amount of money for what he will bring to a club.

I get that he scored 19 goals last year and that is an impressive tally, but the skill set of Walcott is limited. If he isn’t pounding home short-ranged goals or slotting in rebounds, there isn’t much else he can do. But if that’s what Everton want, then by all means, bid away.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Of course, if there is any team that is ready to spend some money, it would probably be Everton. They did, after all, make an absolute killing off of both John Pebbles and Romelu Lukaku and for what it’s worth, reinvesting that money into Walcott is not the worst idea in the world. At least you know what you’re getting out of him.

And honestly, after seeing how inflated the English transfer market is, I shouldn’t even be surprised. In a world where John Pebbles costs £55m and Kyle Walker costs £50m (both to the same team, coincidentally) then yes, Walcott is absolutely worth £30m.

Again, at least you know what you are getting out of Walcott, whereas City still aren’t sure what they are getting/will get from Mr. Pebbles.

I believe that every single player has a price, no matter how inflated. And if Walcott can garner that price then cut him lose and turn that around into Thomas Lemar money.
