Arsenal: Thomas Lemar transfer boost as Arsene Wenger bares all
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is rarely open about transfer dealings, but his recent statements have to give hope that Thomas Lemar is coming.
Arsenal has had a very successful transfer window thus far, but according to Arsene Wenger, it isn’t over yet.

“We are still open to strengthening our team with players coming from outside,” he said, as quoted by the Metro. After elaborating about the fear of destabilization, he added: “We are still active on the transfer market so let’s see what kind of opportunities we can find.”
There is nothing to read into there. We are going to see more signings this summer to add onto the two massive acquisition we already have. If Wenger is openly admitting to being active in the market, you know it’s coming.
Normally, Arsene Wenger looks at the transfer market like this horrible bazaar of goods that he doesn’t want to deal with. Whereas some managers go in with wads of cash ready to buy anything that sparkles, Wenger is much more frugal with his spending, happy to instead go to the quiet corners and try to uncover a gem.
But this time around, things have been different, as he paid top dollar for a striker, something he never wanted to do.

We’ve heard so many things from Wenger regarding the transfer market in the past – “only if there is someone extraordinary,” “we have so much quality already,” “spending for the sake of spending solves nothing,” – but I don’t recall a time where he has so openly embraced the idea of spending more money to strengthen the squad.
And if you want to take it a step farther, there aren’t that many places in the squad that Wenger can be thinking about in terms of strengthening. It sure as hell isn’t at striker. It’s not in defense. Midfield is the only possible option and given how much faith he has in Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka, I don’t think we need to look any further than in those forward two midfield positions.
Which means that Thomas Lemar is certainly one of the names floating around in Wenger’s head. I would hope that Emil Forsberg is too, but for as staunchly as Monaco are holding onto Lemar, RB Leipzig are twice as firm with the Swede.

Of course, there is always Marcelo Brozovic, who I am quite tired of having linked to Arsenal, but combined with Wenger’s non-denial of the links to Lemar, it’s looking like if there is anything to believe in, it’s that Le Prof is going hard in the paint for Thomas Lemar.
