Arsenal: Bashing Sead Kolasinac significance just grossly irresponsible

Arsenal secured a veritable steal when they landed Sead Kolasinac, yet some peopleare still devaluing him for absolutely no reason.

Arsenal’s transfer window may not have ended well, but it certainly began well, as they were able to lock up two massive signings that they’ve needed for years. In Alexandre Lacazette, they got that clinical finisher that they needed and in Sead Kolasinac, not only did they get a left back and ball hawk, but they got grit, fire and determination.

Yet, still, people are bashing the transfer window. Now, I totally get the argument that they were one, maybe two signings away from having a stellar window, but to say it was shambolic? That’s a bit much.

Especially when you say something like Duncan Castles has said about Sead Kolasinac:

"Arsenal had a terrible transfer window. A really shocking transfer window. Only one signing of significance, and one who in [Alexandre] Lacazette, for all his skills and finishing, is not a complete striker."

We will get to the devaluing of Alexandre Lacazette later today, but for now, I would like to focus on how Sead Kolasinac is not a signing of significance, because this has to be one of the most unfounded things I have heard in quite sometime. And this is right on the even of Garth Crooks issuing his fantastic statement about Danny Welbeck, mind you.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

How can you see the key things that Arsenal lacks, then see how Kolasinac fits all of those things and think that it isn’t significant?

Kolasinac made the Bundesliga team of the year. The only player outside of the top four teams to do so and he was well outside of the top four teams. Yet he is not a significant addition?

He has proven himself to be one of the hardest workers, one of the grittiest fighters, and still one of the most creatively effective players at what he does. As a left wing back, he has everything you could possibly want and for a team that is transitioning into a formation that requires wingbacks of the highest quality, that don’t just serve fluttering crosses into the box, where there aren’t any dominant aerial threats.

In fact, Kolasinac is such a deviation from the crossing-only wingback that he has averaged more key passes than crosses in every single year of his career. And that includes his time as just a left back, when crosses are even more of a priority than for a wingback.

So Arsenal have addressed a problem that everyone could plainly see and they did it with one of the best possible solutions out there. Yet it’s not of significance.

I would love to discuss with anyone how they could possibly think that Kolasinac is not a signing of significance.
