Arsenal’s second secondary competition, the League Cup, kicks off with Doncaster Rovers. Here are all the facts and where to watch.
Arsenal welcomed seven youngsters to first team training as they prepared for today’s clash against Doncaster Rovers in the League Cup. With this being the lowest on the totem pole of competitions the Gunners are hoping to compete for, they will likely utilize and many U23 stars as they can and that should bode quite well for anyone that followed along in preseason.

Among those called up were Reiss Nelson, the spirited 17 year old Englishman who has been taking the U23 by storm, winning player of the month in August for scoring five goals in just three appearances.
Many believe Nelson should already be up at the senior level, taking Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s vacancy, but for the time being, he will have to settle with competitions like these.
That said, expect Nelson to start, most likely at right wing back, as that is where he was utilized in preseason and that is where he figures to play when he does make it to the first team.

Joe Willock is another that figures to be in the mix. The midfield is a position of some debate, as those holding two roles will likely be filled by Mohamed Elneny and one other, either Willock or Jack Wilshere, depending on what Wenger decides is best for Wilshere.
No doubt he ranks in as one of the main reasons to follow the match. He came off the bench against FC Koln due to lacking match fitness and should, by this point, be ready to start against Doncaster, especially in front of a home crowd.
Calum Chambers has also returned to the fold in a bit of news that should be incredibly exciting, given how talented the Englishman is. Wenger said that he would be involved, now we just have to wait and see in what capacity that involvement takes shape.
Other than that, expect to see a spattering of veterans mixed in with the youngsters. Olivier Giroud figures to be front and center, ready to nod home as many goals as humanly possible and Theo Walcott could also find his name on the starting XI as he seeks some sort of positive narrative for a season that is looking like a dead end.
