Arsenal: Olivier Giroud can springboard Alexandre Lacazette
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal desperately need to find some consistency in their attack, but that’s proven hard to do. So it’s time to unleash the big man to help spring Alexandre Lacazette.
Earlier today, I talked about how Arsenal needs to find a way to orchestrate an “Alvaro Morata” type day for Alexandre Lacazette. The Gunners’ attack has been tremendously inconsistent in the first five matches while we’ve seen rival attacks destroying Premier League caliber opposition.

Part of the problem comes down to personnel. Arsene Wenger has not had a consistent front three. Not by a long shot. And with Danny Welbeck now out, the only real constant in the attack is Lacazette, which is a bit nervy because he hasn’t proven himself reliable just yet.
Promising? Absolutely. But with Wenger still trying to protect him from the big bad Premier League while he “acclimates” to his new home, it’s hard to let him rise to the occasion of being relied upon.
Lacazette needs a good ally. He had one in Welbeck, as the two interplayed incredibly well, but that link is now broken and a new one has to be forged.
I am going to do my usual thing here and advocate for Olivier Giroud to be relied upon.
As much as I hate to admit it, I think he is the Gunners best bet to springboard Lacazette against a defensively stout West Brom. Ozil is a bit inconsistent in term of his reliability and Alexis Sanchez will be out there already anyway.

Giroud is an Arsenal man. Even when he isn’t scoring goals, he is taking up space as a target man and, my favorite asset of all, knocking balls down into the path of team mates.
I fell in love with his combination play with Antoine Griezmann at the 2016 Euros and it got me all jazzed up to see it recreated with Lacazette at the club level.
As of yet, they haven’t had that chance. Lacazette has been playing alongside everyone except Giroud (well, and Alexis) and has struggled to find his footing. So therefore it only stands to reason that maybe Giroud (or Alexis) is the key to unlocking the new Frenchman.
Why not make it both? Lining up with Giroud and Lacazette up front and Alexis in behind them against the Baggies would be a most welcome attacking force that has enough fire power to churn out a result as convincing as what City and Chelsea were able to do.

Not just that, but Giroud is really the only attack who hasn’t had his fair share of opportunity to make a difference. He has yet to start a game this year, after all.
