Arsenal has always had a keen interest in Antoine Griezmann, but Alexandre Lacazette’s self-assigned diplomacy is so much more than a boost in that department.

Arsenal have been tied to Antoine Griezmann since his days at Real Sociedad. Before he was the big shot that he is today. It’s always been sort of assumed that his relationship with Arsene Wenger – which is reputable – will land him at the Emirates should he ever leave Atletico Madrid.

Rumors have gone cold, however. There has been so little talk of it for years, and not just that, but Alexandre Lacazette‘s arrival seems to nip everything in the bud, as they are pretty similar players.

But Lacazette doesn’t think that’s the end of the story. In fact, he believes that he can be the self-prescribed diplomat that brings his countryman to the Emirates (even if it was just a joke). Here are his words, as quoted by Matchday Magazine:

“If he visits me in London, I’m going to ask him to sign for Arsenal. We’re very good friends and have lots of fun. Our nicknames for each other are Griezzy and Lacaz.”

Now, if you’re like me, your heart is fluttering already. The idea that we have Griezmann’s bff at our squad, who is capable of luring our holy grail to the Emirates is simply sensational. But even if it was nothing more than idle chatter and a little hoopla, there is more to this than just the hope of reigniting a transfer we’ve always dreamed of.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

While I’m not one to read into statements too much, this one is different. It shows that our new striker has enough faith in the organization to openly campaign for it, even if just in thought. If he was jaded with his move at all, this sort of thing doesn’t get uttered.

Meaning that Lacazette is happy here. And to be fair, there is no reason he shouldn’t be, but a little reassurance never hurt. We heard Arturo Vidal telling the world that he was trying to coax Alexis Sanchez to Bayern Munich but we never heard Alexis say that he was trying to coax anyone to Arsenal.

Just an example.

I take it as a show of faith in the direction of the club. And while I feel like I have been pleased with such things in the past, this ones feels different, as it’s at a point where the club is changing directions entirely.
