Arsenal are still hoping to get the best out of Jack Wilshere, but with the stakes escalating, are we still worried about him taking it too fast?

Arsenal’s prodigal son, Jack Wilshere is back. But with his return, there is always going to be such a big dose of hesitation. We’ve been here before. At the crossroads of “he’s back” meets “will he get hurt again?”

The more optimistic of Gooners thought that he should have started against Brighton & Hove Albion, but having played the previous Thursday, just three days earlier, that always seemed a bit soon.

That said, seeing him play immediately following international break would be absolutely called for. If not wholly necessary.

With all the drama surrounding the two stubborn superstars, the Gunners are in extra need of someone that can step up into the potential void in the present and, better yet, the void in the future that we know for sure is going to be there.

Arsene Wenger has continuously urged caution over our gung-ho mentality with Wilshere, reminding us, as he should, that he needs to be 100% positive going forward that there is no risk of our dear Englishman getting hurt. Or as little risk as possible.

Now, they are saying that Wilshere is on the brink of rejoining the England national team, despite not having much of a resume other than that ever-present promise of greatness.

Which is what made me start wondering if, assuming this news of a looming England call-up is correct, this may all be happening a bit quickly for the incredibly injury-prone Wilshere.

He has yet to make his return to the first team starting XI and all I keep worrying about is not letting anything get in the way. And that’s not to say that an international call up would – Lord knows England needs something – but it’s another concern. Another chance for him to get hurt.

It’s happened before, where a performance for England prematurely ended his season with Arsenal.

Obviously there is no way to hide from it. Everyone knows what kind of quality Wilshere has and he was always going to return to international competitions, I was just hoping that maybe he could get settled in at Arsenal before another risk was added to the equation.

Whatever the case, at the very least it’s exciting that North London is buzzing about Wilshere again. Hopefully that buzz can turn into something it’s never been able to turn into before.
