Arsenal: Nabil Fekir has Gunners set up to look like idiots
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal are pegged as the “only” team Nabil Fekir would leave Lyon for, which is just one sparkling invitation for the Gunners to look like complete idiots.
I have spent all season being optimistic. I have believed in Arsenal and even genuinely told people the same old thing – this year is different. And maybe it still can be. I will continue to optimistically say that Manchester City isn’t for real and Arsenal are. Because, I don’t know, maybe I’m the idiot.

But in the mean time, grant me a moment of complete and utter pessimism. Arsenal is in a pitfall of “how the hell did we get here.” With the club flailing, their two superstars are running out their contracts and it leaves Arsene Wenger, of all people, in a precarious position of having to fill those voids with little to no money coming the other way.
And then Nabil Fekir happens. According to Fekir’s dad, which, if there is a more reliable source, please show me, the only club that Fekir would leave Lyon for is, you guessed it, our Gunners.
“If he leaves, it will be for Arsenal. It’s the only club that can enable him to progress, with Arsene Wenger,” his father said, as quoted by the Mirror. “He will not go to Manchester City to sit on the bench.”
Fekir has said similar in the past, indicating that he would not go anywhere else in France and that only England and Spain appeal to him. Now that his father has name-dropped though, the table is set.
The French attacker is having a monumental season. Only two regular starters are scoring more goals per 90 than Fekir – Edinson Cavani and Falcao. He is scoring more often than the £200m man over at PSG and he is assisting a great deal too. But it’s goals I want to talk about, because this is an attacking midfielder who scores goals with thumping consistency.

How nice would that be. And have I mentioned that Arsenal are going to have first dibs at landing the guy? How cool is that?
Only that’s where my pessimism kicks in like a Spartan kick to the head. This kind of set up, where the ball is literally set on the tee and all the Gunners have to do is swing and hit the damn thing, is the exactly the kind of thing they would blow.
So Fekir and his family thing he’s Arsenal bound. That’s great. And he is a fantastic player and he’s French and he plays a position that is about to be devoid of two superstars. It couldn’t possibly fit any better.
But we still have to see the club pay an actual fee, and that’s where I get tremendous pause. Fekir is going to be expensive. Hugely. Maybe eve more than Alexandre Lacazette. And if Wenger spends his time trying to knock the price down while someone like Barcelona or Real Madrid comes with check in hand, we miss out.
