Arsenal may be just what all the naysayers have been saying they are – done. And maybe it is solvable by ousting Arsene Wenger, but Patrick Vieira makes too much sense.

Arsenal’s problems have long been tough to diagnose – at least to some. Some will just tell you it’s down to Arsene Wenger. All will tell you that Stan Kroenke is nothing to the club but a detriment. But when you look at what they have on the pitch, or rather what they should be on the pitch, that’s when the big questions come up.

At this point, assuming that Arsene Wenger plays a big part in the lack of effectiveness in the club isn’t as scorned upon as it once was. It’s plain to see that it isn’t getting any better. Every other team seems to be improving, yet nothing Wenger does amounts to much, if anything.

So again we turn the conversation to who can replace him. And there are so many names thrown around with not a lot of belief that any of those names will be the one. Simply because we have no idea when Wenger will be done and why would those coaches wait?

But one name keeps coming back and keeps making more and more sense – Patrick Vieira.

The dynamic Frenchman, who was the heartbeat of the Invincible club, has been coaching NYCFC in MLS for the past two years and turned them around massively. They went from a team laden with over-the-hill superstars to an attack that was not only powerful, but sustainable, with tons of youth products living up to expectations.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Not just that, but Vieira showcased some of Wenger’s favorite traits – i.e. building from the back, and added in some improvements – the willingness to change tactics on the fly as well as sitting stars who maybe thought they should have deserved more.

Then there is the added benefit that, seemingly in preparation for the job, Vieira has been mum about how useful Wenger still is, and has even come to his defense, which many believe is a prerequisite to getting a position within the club, even for former superstars.

And then there is the matter of Vieira never having been amply replaced since his 2006 departure. No one has been able to do anything close to what he did. Of course, it’s not like Wenger has acquired anyone that had the capability.

Vieira would. Because if anyone knows the importance of Vieira and what he brings to a club, it’s Vieira. And you can bet he would be set on finding someone that can do it.
