Arsenal target Leon Goretzka has supposedly had it confirmed that he is coming to the Premier League, so dare we think twice about this new?

Arsenal’s midfield woes need solutions like a ham sandwich needs bread. They have to address the partnership of Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka and either turn it into a trio – the preferred option – or swap someone, which is unfair to either, as they are both solid midfielders.

One solution – Leon Goretzka – has been held high above all the rest. Mostly because he’s free. But don’t let that fool you because, remember, Sead Kolasinac was free too. And from the same place.

Anyway, Goretzka has supposedly had his future predicted, and not by a swampland soothsayer. No, German National Team GM Oliver Bierhoff has spoken up and said this about the FC Schalke man (as quoted by the Daily Star):

“We feel that England, because of the amount of money you have with TV rights, young talented players like Leroy Sane and Leon Goretzka are moving to England.”

Well then.

I must say that I see Bierhoff’s point, that the Bundesliga can’t keep losing players like this. But they produce so damn many superb young players that there’s just nothing that can be done about it. Some are going to leave.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

And if they have to leave, why not Arsenal?

This is such a dangerous game to play, in prematurely anointing him an Arsenal player, which I intend to do. It’s not like Bierhoff is Goretzka’s agent or anything, but wouldn’t he of all people be pretty in-tuned to what his international guys are doing? And not just that, but he was clearly speaking passionately, which we can all attest to, loosens up the tongue a bit.

There have been rumors tying him to Barcelona and Bayern Munich, but Goretzka was quick to personally shoot down the Bayern rumors over the summer and Barcelona are perpetually linked to everyone.

I am going to go ahead and give Goretzka the Pain in the Arsenal gold star. It has only been given out once, and that was the Granit Xhaka in March of 2016. But I do add a stipulation to the star – we have to be in the Champions League, otherwise forget about it.

I have been hesitant to give it out since then because you just never know with Wenger.

But with Goretzka, you do know. He is a a rising star. He is leaving. Kolasinac is already here. He can have first team immediately, as he’d take Ozil’s spot and be a literal Godsent. It’s dangerous to bank on this being real, but hell, what do we have to lose?
