While international break bumbles on, Olivier Giroud’s master plot continues to unfold. Does Arsenal have a surprise in store with the Frenchman?

As international break continues to give us little to nothing to talk about, all we have are quotes or the odd Gunner appearing for their country. But quotes can be an interesting thing, particularly where Arsenal are concerned, and Olivier Giroud has given us something to nibble on.

It’s pretty clear that Giroud has little to no place on this Arsenal club anymore. Alexandre Lacazette has taken the starting role with little to no actual competition and when he is wrongly benched, it isn’t Giroud that gets the start, it’s Alexis Sanchez.

Meaning that Giroud is essentially relegated to super-sub duties and midweek fixtures. It’s hardly where the French international first choice striker should be. Nor where the man who will score more than Zinedine Zidane should be.

But Giroud isn’t just giving the usual blurb about being truly happy. He is saying much more and he keeps repeating one like in particular – that his “story” isn’t over yet.

The big man said it prior to the season and he said it again during this international break when given another chance to slam how sparsely he’s been used this year. There would be no slamming from the bearded wonder, other than slamming the ball into the back of the net to sneak up the French scoring charts again.

But his continued specificity that his “story” is not over makes me wonder if he doesn’t have something in mind. Clearly he has thought this ought, because there is no wavering in his voice. No “you can never say what the future holds” like Mesut Ozil always says.

This man is dedicated like never before. But that’s what I can’t figure out. You can love a club all you want, but if you’re not playing and a World Cup is coming up, you have every right to seek other options and not rub anyone the wrong way.

Not Giroud though. Not even close. That’s where my bored-by-international-break mind conjured up this amazing conspiracy theory that maybe Giroud is being saved by Wenger for the perfect moment, at which point he will unleash him to wreak havoc on all of England.

But then I calmed down and realized that all this really is is confidence from Giroud. Which is probably the best thing we could ask for. He has admitted to confidence problems in the past and to hear him so confidently state that he has more to do, well, that is actually worth something.

It’s worth so much that I am just awaiting the next chance for Giroud to save us, because I’m thoroughly convinced he will. A confident Giroud is a menacing beast, and you can’t act anymore confident than he currently is.
