Arsene Wenger has said he will think about how to move forward with his two Arsenal superstars, but it’s time to turn that thought into action.

Arsenal faces a major turning point coming up in January. Either Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, who were meant to define this generation of Arsenal football – and by define I mean win things – leave, or they stay, for six months or longer.

“Longer” feels like the red-headed step-child of all the other possible outcomes. It’s pretty well established that they are both leaving and, as I have gone on record as saying numerous times (including in our first podcast here at Pain in the Arsenal), good riddance. Sell them as soon as you possibly can because letting them go for free should not be an option.

I know I wavered on this issue a bit when it was first introduced, but I can see clearly now, the rain is gone. I can see all… anyway.

That’s I’m actually quite pleased with Arsene Wenger‘s recent comments. Quite – not wholly. He said that they’d have to think about it and see where they stand at the end of December.

That’s good. That’s progress. That means, at least I hope that means, that by the end of December, it will be clear what the prerogative is. Because up until he said that, I felt like he had no friggin clue what he wanted to do with them, despite knowing that they both – well, Alexis for sure – wanted to leave.

That’s not a situation you want to be in as a club. And I shouldn’t even have to say that. Two of the club’s biggest ever signings who are also two superstars and international icons, should not be in their last year of their contract with an unclear future.

That said, there is thought now. And I’m sure there was always thought, but now we can actually confirm that there is thought. But thought is such a inaugural phase. That thought has to be turned into action and, let me yet again unleash my power of hindsight, that action should have been put into place before the summer ended.

As in, sold or new contracts before the season started. Because now we are eyeing up losing them both for either cut prices or, worse, for nothing.

And if we’ve learned anything about this club, it’s that the money is there, if it can be backed up by sales. Just get it over with.
