City eased their way past Bristol City on Tuesday night, after a late fightback from Lee Johnson’s side. They are still in all four competitions, as well as looking as though they will steamroll the Premier League, having lost just one game all season, and have played some truly scintillating football throughout the year. They will not be an easy out.
But Arsenal have been here before: Last season’s FA Cup semi-final, with the Gunners crawling out of a spiralled hole that they had dug themselves, so much so that Wenger had shifted to a back-three, and City beginning to show the early, sprouting signs of the relentless form they have enjoyed this season.
Wenger is yet to win the League Cup, now known as the Carabao Cup. In 21 years as manager of the club, having won every other domestic competition during that time, this is a trophy that he will most certainly want to win. And while City offer an almighty challenge, Wenger will be confident that his side can at least rival the league leaders.
