Arsenal is looking to win the league next season just like every other club. The club needs experience and safe hands. Alban Lafont doesn’t fit that bill.

Arsenal are linked with plenty of goalkeepers around the world but one youngster stands out – Alban Lafont of Toulouse. He is a great prospect for the future, someone who could be at the club for decades. But fans would rather win the league sooner rather than later.

Fans want trophies in their cabinets yesterday, and with all their signings this year, you can see they’re building something. The only thing left to work on is their goalkeepers.

One will be 36 by the end of the year and the back up is 30 and not reliable. All parties are pretty much in agreement that they need a reliable pair of hands, someone who could be a franchise player. Manchester City have Ederson, Manchester United have David De Gea.

Enter Alban Lafont, someone who is young and exciting. Someone who would be willing to learn under any goalkeeping coach. But is he good enough to be a number one, and has he had the experiences that other top-drawer goalkeepers have had?

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Arsenal has been linked with plenty of goalkeepers from around the world and within England. Most goalkeepers that are linked have played in the Champions League or play in prestigious leagues. Lafont plays for relegation-threatened Toulouse.

Jan Oblak is linked with a move to North London, but he comes with a price-tag. But Oblak would also be a franchise player, he is young enough, but also has experience. He is a quality keeper but would cost a fortune, and Paris Saint Germain are also in for Oblak. The Gunners could never compete financially with them. Oblak would be an incredible option to have at the back, safe hands and an imposing presence.

Timo Horn has also been linked with a move to North London. He would also be another decent option. He plays for relegation-threatened Koln. He may not be a flashy or extravagant keeper but he is a pair of safe hands. He is also a year younger than Jan Oblak who costs twenty times more than Horn. He has shown signs of being able to play at a high level and have a commanding presence in his box.

With both keepers showing signs of quality and expertise at their jobs. Lafont is in tough company in terms of proving himself to Arsene Wenger. Lafont will need a miracle to even get a look in by the Gunners, He is too young and too inexperienced for a side that wants to win the title. As such, they should look elsewhere for a goalkeeper.
