With Arsenal crying out for a wide man, Monaco has the answer in youngster Thomas Lemar. He would be pricey but he would be totally worth it in the long run

Monaco’s president Vadim Vasilyev has recently stated that star winger Thomas Lemar would cost clubs upwards of £100 million. A fee that most top clubs would shy away from. But Arsenal should make a move for the France international for one massive reason.

This club is in need an out and out winger, and Thomas Lemar is the answer. Lemar was one of Monaco’s instrumental players last season. Sunday’s game against Newcastle showed the fans that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be used as a winger, so why not invest in an actual one and explore the options a bit?

Maybe he could even be an upgrade or push Aubemeyang into a second striker role.

Sunday’s lackluster game against mid-table Newcastle showed that without Mesut Ozil, Arsenal struggle to create chances. They need that creative spark in their team even if Ozil is not there.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Enter Thomas Lemar, the creative yet deadly winger that not only has that presence out wide, but also knows how to create chances.. He is sharp with his passes and can also score from set plays. His ability to dribble past players with ease and to create that little half a yard is something special as well. Lemar also has a keen eye for goal, scoring fourteen in all competitions.

Given Lemar’s expertise, the Gunners could play him either in the middle of the park or push him out wide, where he’s been playing with Monaco. Either way, he would be deadly. He loves to drift inside and terrorize center-backs. Of course, the one drawback being that his preferred method is to cut inside and not always stay wide, but he’s still a winger, nonetheless.

The Gunners have experimented with such attackers before, the type that cut in rather then heading for the corner flag. Joel Campbell was one such player, although he was liable to do just about anything.

If Arsenal wants to compete next season they will need to have a busy transfer window. The signing of Thomas Lemar is a must. He would bring flair and finesse to a side that could use more creativity.

This club does need to strengthen in other areas too, but Lemar is a great start. Plus, he needs a fresh start away from Monaco, and the Gunners can provide him that much at the very least.
