Arsenal have recently shown interest in OGC Nice midfielder, Jean Michael Seri. Whilst the Ivorian has no shortage of talent, he is not what is needed.

One thing that Arsenal’s board finds more attractive than anything is a low price tag. Jean-Michael Seri‘s amazing price of around £30 million is a spectacular deal given the talent he possesses. Yet, despite the bang-for-your-buck price, Seri is clearly not the right man for Arsenal’s midfield.

Seri would force out Ramsey or Wilshere

The main issue with purchasing Seri would be the inevitable exit of one of either Aaron Ramsey or Jack Wilshere. Wilshere and Ramsey are undoubtedly two of the favorites amongst the current squad. The Englishman and Welshman are at the stage in their career’s where the need to play first team football.

Seri’s outstanding talent would push one of them to the bench and the other out the exit door. Wilshere. who has only a few months left on his contract has missed out on the World Cup and needs clarity moving into the peak years of his career. Ramsey’s contract is also running down and with the Welsh wizards performances this season there is no doubt in anyone’s mind he deserves a new contract.

Max Meyer makes more sense to fill the non-existent void

Most Arsenal fans will agree that a deep lying creative midfielder is not what’s needed. Defenders, a new goalkeeper and a defensive minded midfielder are critical for the gunners to mount a title challenge next season.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Despite the fact that a Fabregas type midfielder is not currently what is needed Schalke’s Max Meyer on a free is an extraordinary deal. The 22 year old German international is a free agent and with Arsenal’s apparent “tight budget”  a player of his caliber for free is a must.

There has been rumors flying around of the reds of London having a pathetic transfer budget of £50 million pounds. If this is truly the case spending more than half the budget on an unnecessary acquisition is utterly farcical.

A Big, Mean Tank is needed, not another luxurious creator

If there is one thing that Arsenl have in abundance it’s creative minded attackers. Players like Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Aaron Ramsey and many others throughout the club are in no shortage.

However, defensive midfielders are almost no where to be found in the squad. A giant, no nonsense tank of a player is needed to protect our shambolic excuse of a back line. Players like Granit Xhaka are expected to do a job they’re not capable of and that needs to be put to a halt.

Seri is obviously a top class player, but not at all what Arsenal need at this moment in time. Sometimes it’s not all about signing the big names that appease the fans, but instead the under credited engine room staff that work behind the scenes to run the ship.
