Arsenal have a lot to do this summer, with a lot of moving and shaking likely taking place, but starting with Jean Michael Seri and Caglar Soyuncu is perfect.

Arsenal fans often expect the world, and they often expect it in a dazzling display of pure transfer gold, where the best players in the world are purchased and nothing less. Because anything less is disappointing and unfit for the royalty that is this club.

I can dig that. But I can also dig the underwhelming signings, like Konstantinos Mavropanos, who I find get me more excited than the ego-maniacal superstars that may others would prefer. The joy of seeing a player grow into the right player is far more satisfying than seeing a premade man (like Alexis) stink up the place with his selfishness.

That’s why I’m liking a hell of a lot of the rumors that are swirling around the Gunners. Not all, mind you, because I don’t much understand, nor do I care for, the idea of Sokratis coming to North London, but the others are just perfect.

In particular Jean Michael Seri and Caglar Soyuncu. These are by no means the biggest names in the transfer world. Not even close. And their prices are not friendly prices (although Seri’s isn’t terrible), but when you look at what the Gunners truly need, these two offer it.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

In Seri, you have a roving midfielder that is a tireless ball-hawk, much like Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere. He has been itching for that ‘next step’ of his footballing career and, assuming that either one of those two midfielders leave, but even if they don’t, he provides and athletic counterpart to the staple that is Granit Xhaka.

This midfield is already in good shape, but in order to keep in in tip-top condition, adding someone like Seri does the trick. You have to keep things fresh, namely because there were numerous times I was uninspired by Wilshere, and that means there is room for improvement.

And if Soyuncu is what Mislintat seems to think he is, then the young Turk can add to our youthful defensive ranks and work towards a better, more solidified defensive future for this club. There is nothing wrong with believing that there are top-quality defenders hidden in lower tiers.

Not just that, but he wouldn’t be asked to settle in and be the go-to guy right from the off. Believe it or not, Arsenal have a few young defenders who we should have complete faith (or at least optimism) in to be the needed defensive ‘umph’ for this new era.

After these two, assuming they can be completed, all that’s needed is a keeper and, ideally, a winger or two.
