Arsenal’s midfield has a lot of questions being asked of it, and more and more, the answer appears to be Jean Michael Seri. And no other.

Arsenal have a lot of questions to address this summer, starting, of course, with their manager. But after that, with the defensive changes already in the works, we have to look at this midfield and the question marks riddling their ranks.

We don’t even know who is staying or going, which is obviously the hardest part. Even Granit Xhaka, who I rant and rave about, could be sold, although let me just go ahead and point out how stupid that would be.

It’s Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere that are the two big question marks, as the former has an asking price and the latter is out of contract in a few short weeks. Unless there is a sudden influx of staying power, something is going to have to happen.

Santi Cazorla is also leaving, so any hope of him being a resurgent savior are gone as well.

Max Meyer is off the table, as he has reportedly declared himself for Hoffenheim. So that’s one easy solution down the tubes. Other than him, it really becomes a matter of who we can actually attract without Champions League football.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Jean Michael Seri would not have been in the Champions League with Nice anyway. So what this is amounting to is if we don’t get Seri, we are going to have to do some digging or rely on the stock that we have while simultaneously keeping hold of the stock that we have.

None of which is easy. I’m sure there are plenty of other midfielders available that would come to this club, but I’m talking about midfielders who can make a difference. Meyer was one, Seri is another. We don’t just need midfielders, we need Ramsey-esque, Wilshere-esque, Cazorla-esque midfielders who can do a lot of different things, all effectively.

That, again, is not an easy ask. So the trick now is securing someone like Seri so that we don’t have to go deep diving for something that is suddenly looking like slim-pickings.

Thankfully, Seri is available. He has been, and as of right now, the links to other teams are pretty slim. Meaning that, hopefully, he can be locked up and eliminate a serious font of doubt before it can start pouring.

And then we can extend Rambo and Wilshere and everyone goes home happy.
