The success of this summer is still largely dependent on Arsenal ability to keep Aaron Ramsey. And no, Lucas Vazquez would not make up for anything less.

Arsenal’s summer is going wonderfully in terms of the transfer market, as they have been able to use their minimal budget to land a lot of key needs. They’ve extending some key players as well, but yet, through it all, Aaron Ramsey remains a question mark.

And with his first link to being sold, the rumors are going to start pouring in over who can replace him. Or, since nobody can, who can compensate for him.

The first name to pop up as the Ramsey compensation is Lucaz Vazquez who, you may have noticed, is no replacement at all. He’s a winger.

Given everything that we know, the question we now have to ask ourselves is if Ramsey were sold, would getting a top-tier winger like Vazquez be enough to make up for the sale of the Welshman?

You shouldn’t have needed any time to think about the answer to that question, because the answer is no.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

It’s pretty simple, and can be boiled down to a matter of necessity. The reason why we want wingers, legitimate wingers, is because we want a Plan B should the narrow, creative attack fail to amount to anything.

Let’s not forget who mans that narrow, central attack – Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette. Four of our five best players – the other being Aaron Ramsey.

Vazquez would be our premium Plan B option. Perhaps we build more around him and figure out someone in our epic front four to bench, but that seems a bit unnecessary.

Ramsey is our premium Plan A. He’s a central figure of everything that the Gunners want to do. The Plan B for Ramsey is to wait for Ramsey to get back. He doesn’t have ab alternative behind him because one isn’t needed. He is the central cog of this machine and he is responsible for the heroism that is sometimes required to get this club over the edge.

Vazquez doesn’t compensate for that, no matter how good he is. Ramsey is always going to be more important, especially in the current set-up.

I would love Vazquez on the team, but not at the expense of losing Ramsey. If we’re going to lose Ramsey, we better be getting Toni Kroos or someone ridiculous like that. Otherwise, forget about it.
