Arsenal: And just like that, Ante Rebic is ruined
By Josh Sippie
Ante Rebic is a premium talent who was sneaking in under the radar, but Arsenal are caught up in rush hour now, as the price skyrockets.
Sometimes I like to brag. Not often, but sometimes. After seeing Ante Rebic in the group stages of the World Cup, I realized that Arsenal had to have him. I have to be honest, I had not seen much of him at Eintracht Frankfurt, but his numbers speak for themselves.
He was everything that the Gunners could want in a winger, and in a player in general. They already have style-points galore, but Rebic would bring more steel to that style, which has become a premium want and need of this club.
Not just that, but I’m going to steal Lucas Torreira’s term again – garra charrua. Rebic doesn’t have that exact thing, because he isn’t Uruguayan. But whatever the Croatian equivalent is, Rebic has it.

He leaves nothing back when he takes to the pitch, fighting tooth and nail for every ball. Not to mention he has that amazing combination of strength and speed, not unlike Sead Kolasinac, but with slightly less strength and slightly more technical efficiency.

Rebic could have doubled as a winger or a wingback, and even played striker as well, as he has in the Bundesliga.
It looked perfect. But it also felt like only a matter of time before he was picked out by more clubs, especially if Croatia went deep into the World Cup.
Making it to the Finals is pretty deep. And now everyone wants Ante Rebic. Literally, everyone.
The latest quote is £44m for the 24-year-old. And here I was thinking we could sneak in and get away with a bid no more than £20m, as that’s where his value was hovering before the Croats ran over England.
Now, for all intents and purposes, Rebic is an impossibility. That kind of transfer fee is never going to be forked up, not least of all with all the other teams clamoring to get a hold on him. A bidding war is not Arsenal’s friend.

It’s been fun watching Croatia go this deep into the World Cup (sorry England fans) and Rebic has been a huge part of it.
