Arsenal’s transfer window isn’t even over and yet it was a complete and total success. So just stop talking about Steven N’Zonzi already.

Arsenal have had themselves a summer. A really, really good summer. Rather than let their to-do list sit there as the World Cup passed, and as the preseason passed, hoping to snag some deals as the window eeked towards a close, they got out in front of everything and went all proactive on us.

Which is the greatest feeling ever. To be sitting here in mid-July without another need in the world. Sure, if they can snag a winger, then go for it, but honestly, I’m nowhere near as worried about it as I once was.

Because the team is set. They are snugly packed at every position and at every position, they have so much to look forward to. To insinuate that it’s any different would be to downplay the tremendous work they have already done.

Yet the calls for Steven N’Zonzi continue. The rumors linking us to him persist. His price tag, confirmed at £35m, is ridiculously overcooked to the point that the tag alone should have warded off all interested from the Emirates.

But he persists. Or they persist, rather.

The sooner we can stop talking about him, the better. I am loving the feeling that business is done and dusted, and satisfyingly so. Having to reset and reassess another signing, especially one like N’Zonzi, is a waste of time and resources.

This midfield is in fantastic shape. They are packed with youngsters and prime-sters, newbies and veterans, all within an age range that constitutes a lengthy future with this exact crew. To add someone to this would not be beneficial at all, not least of all because the price tag constitutes a corresponding sale, and needless to say, we really don’t want to sell anyone right now. Not while everything is feeling so complete.

I have yet to hear one good argument for why N’Zonzi is such a pressing need when we have six midfielders, all of whom I am more excited about than he, even if he was here.

So let a good thing be. Let this team build around the crop that they have and let N’Zonzi figure out a future elsewhere, because he doesn’t belong here.
