Arsenal’s interest in Kingsley Coman is being reported as ‘genuine,’ but does that actually matter for anything? No, it does not.

Arsenal still could use a winger, and of course, it would be better if it were a quality winger, and not just ‘a winger.’ There have been so many exciting names tossed around, some of which got our hopes up. Ousmane Dembele, for instance.

Now it’s Kinglsey Coman. According to the original report of interest, Unai Emery is pretty passionate about landing the young Frenchman.

It has “improved” since then. Rather then letting this rumor simmer and die, where it belongs, it is now being drummed up irrelevantly because according to a journalist, the interest in Coman is “genuine.”

Which is well and good. I’m sure they are interested. Who isn’t? It’s Kinglsey Coman.

These headlines drumming it up, however, choose not to focus on the second part of the statement, where this journalist said that it doesn’t seem likely. That is the real story here, not the genuine interest.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

The thing with Coman is that he is still a major part of Bayern Munich’s plans. Even among their copious crop of talent, most of which is getting younger and younger, Coman stands as a special case because of how special he is.

The only problem Coman has faced is staying healthy. Across the past two seasons, he has missed a grand total of 40 matches for the German giants, due to nine separate injury stints.

Not exactly inspiring stuff from the 22-year-old. But maybe, just maybe, if we were to key off on one potential hole in the armor of him staying in Germany, this may be it.

A club like Bayern doesn’t need anyone. They can replace anyone. If they feel like the club has moved on without Coman, which is always a possibility on a club like that, that always has to be on top of the world, then they may be more keen to sell the guy and work with the players they already have.

It’s a longshot, and I can’t believe that I’ve given myself hope in this pointless transfer rumor, but, I mean, this is Kingsley Coman. He’s the Ferrari of young wingers. If only he can stay healthy.

All that said, it’s still not likely, and it never has been. So the sooner we can move on from this matter the better.
