Arsenal are in for one hell of a season, and Lucas Torreira is going to play a big part, but let’s not jump the gun and make him the next Queen of England.

Arsenal’s capture of the summer is Lucas Torreira. Hands down, no question about it. Here we have our long-lost ball-winner, the man we never had, the only thing we’ve consistently missed. He is a special player inheriting a golden opportunity.

I’m not going to dismiss much hype relating to the 22-year-old because I expect the world of him, as most of us do, and I have all the confidence in the world that he can deliver on it. They called him the best midfielder next to Sergio Busquets and I said “f*** yeah!”

Now that he has reported to training at London Colney, the hype train can shovel more coal into the engine. And the shoveling is in full swing.

Torreira was spotted in training barking orders at his teammates, despite it being literally his first day, and, naturally, this is an automatic win for anyone that has watched the Gunners over the past decade.

So little communication on the pitch has lead to sagging heads and frustrated bodies. With additions like Shkodran Mustafi and Granit Xhaka, that began to turn around, as both are very vocal.

Stephan Lichtsteiner came next.

Now, Torreira is an unexpected emergence on the “I will yell at you if you do something wrong” train, which is always in need of more passengers.

And now, from the blue, it is being said that Torreira could be a leading candidate for one of the five captain spots that Unai Emery plans on employing. The policy is odd enough already, but to fill it with a brand new 22-year-old just because he knows how to shout at teammates on his first day of training.

What next, Torreira for Prime Minister?

I mean, I get it, it’s an exciting time for the Gunners, largely because of Torreira, and I love the hype myself. I’m adding kindling to that hype fire. But calling for him to be captain is a bit of a stretch. If you give the captaincy to a couple of veteran guys and let them serve their time with the club, Torreira can come in maybe in a year or two and take the role. That makes a bit more sense than giving it to him right off the bat.

But who knows. Let Unai Emery do his thing. Who am I to question?
