Arsenal will be without Sead Kolasinac’s services for at least the two months. Looks like the train wreck is getting started early.

There aren’t many players on this Arsenal team who I think embody a greater need than Sead Kolasinac. Even now, with all the new arrivals, I think that the bullish, brutish style of the Bosnian is the exact right thing for this club in every way.

After last year, the bullish brute needed a new start. Mainly because we all knew what he was capable of from his quick start to his debut season.

It’s rough. Most players who get off to a good start eventually come back down to earth for the second half. I always point to Alexis Sanchez, and how he did so well when he first arrived, but faltered in the second half.

Kolasinac did the same. Only, not because he wasn’t good enough, or because his skill sputtered. He did the same because after a fantastic first half that saw him as an early frontrunner for player of the year, he got hurt.

Again.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

And again.

And again.

As fans, we are no strangers to annoying injuries that prevent the club from having what they truly want and need. In fact, it’s odd not to have that. So with Kolasinac, it was more of the same.

We knew that his form in between numerous injuries was going to be jilted. It wasn’t who he actually was, it was a beaten up version of himself. But the old self would come back when he got healthy again. Which was never a guarantee.

Now, with a new season here and a fresh start ready for the plucking, the club has announced that Kolasinac will be out for eight weeks with a knee injury.

Some people have all the luck. The rest of the people play for Arsenal.

Kolasinac was the ideal player for Unai Emery to employ on that left flank. Absolutely perfect. He was high press, he was width and speed, he was all of that. Now, it will fall to Nacho Monreal again, whose place in the squad is far less assured.

This is a major league bummer. Kolasinac is an amazing player capable of some amazing things. It royally sucks that he can’t catch a break and stay out on the pitch for more than a few weeks at a time.
