Attack

Mesut Ozil – RW: 4.0

Neither Ozil nor Mkhitaryan could offer much against the relentless work of the City full backs. Both Mendy and Walker dominated their opposite numbers, with neither able to influence the game in any way. For Ozil, what was most worrying was his lapse and wayward play in the final third. Poor touches, misguided passes, wasteful finishing and confusing decision making. They were all too blame. Not good from Mesut.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – LW: 4.0

I’m not sure who was worse, him or Ozil. It’s as if they were having a competition to see who could frustrate the fans the most. Walker utterly dominated Mkhitaryan, until the Armenian swapped wings when Alexandre Lacazette was introduced. The position switch didn’t change anything. Anonymous in possession, too slow out of it. This team seriously lacks pace when Ozil and Mkhitaryan are the two wingers.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – ST: 5.5

He does have a tendency to go rather quiet in these games. It is his style. He likes to play on the peripheries of the match and he requires service in behind the defence, something that he did not receive here. But there is a growing pattern of his lack of involvement in these big games. It’s not an Aubameyang issue as much as it is a team issue, but it is something that needs to be addressed.
