5. New Signings Winning Over Fans

It’s no secret that football fans love a new signing. They’re like a shiny new toy that you get to unwrap and play with on your birthday or Christmas morning. Sometimes reality doesn’t quite live up to our expectations and what we once viewed as new and exciting can become incredibly disappointing in a hurry.

Similarly, new signings that don’t hit the ground running, especially in the Premier League, can lose the faith of fans and their confidence all too quickly.

Luckily for Arsenal fans, we have not really had to deal with that issue.  New boys Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Matteo Guendouzihttps://paininthearsenal.com/?s=lucas+torreira and Lucas Torreira,  have hit the ground running for the most part.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

It is no secret that Arsenal fans around the world fell head over heels for Torreira during the World Cup. The pint-sized Uruguayan seemed to possess all the qualities that Arsenal lacked in midfield: positional discipline, defensive prowess, and physical dynamism. However, since his arrival and subsequent breakthrough into the first team, fans are now seeing that Torreira is much more than just a feisty ball winner. Indeed the former Sampdoria man plays with a serious tempo, passing range and vision that brings up flashbacks of Santi Carzola.

Sokratis might have gotten off to a slow start, and his pace may have been a spot of worry for some Gooners. However, the Greek international has proven to be the no-nonsense leader that this defense may have been crying out for. His physical style and recovery pace have been welcomed additions to our backline.  The red half of North London will wait with baited breath on the news of his return.

Matteo Guendouzi has leaped to life in the British capital. His confidence and sleek playing style have made him a fan favorite already. No one could have seen this coming from a player who was most recently plying his trade in France’s second division. Indeed Guendouzi is not just one for the future but one for the present as well.

Bernd Leno remains Petr Cech’s number 2 but there is no doubt that he will get his chances in the cup competitions to show his worth as well.
