Arsenal had a gem in Serge Gnabry, but it all went awry. And yes, it is okay if we are still sour about that, because of one huge reason.
I don’t often like to utilize overused adages or cliches, but I’m going to go ahead and beat a dead horse here. Because every so often, I just get so swept up in a particularly failed episode of recent Arsenal lore that it gets me carried away.
Sometimes it is the ghosting of Jon Toral, or the Joel Campbell fiasco, but most of the time, it is Serge Gnabry, our very own Leroy Sane who will never be our very own Leroy Sane ever again, despite his obvious, remaining affinity for the club.
Gnabry has finally been making breakthroughs in the Bundesliga for Bayern Munich, of all places, and while he isn’t doing Reiss Nelson-like things, that is probably because… he plays for Bayern Munich.
Gnabry broke through the Arsenal ranks at the tender age of 18 and was the original Reiss Nelson. He was a stud out there on the pitch, he played fearlessly and he was a wizard with the ball. And, unlike Alex Iwobi, he didn’t have many nerves in front of goal, if any.

Gnabry’s trajectory at the Emirates was set until he suffered an injury and was sent on the worst loan of all time, where Tony Pulis and the hapless (and happily relegated) West Brom sent him into the reserves as they went on to score a paltry amount of goals.
Yes, I’m still bitter.
But it makes me even more bitter that he still holds onto this love for the club, and pile on that with his recent international performances. He is growing more and more into the public eye and, at 23-years-old, it’s time for his breakout, which we might actually be right in the middle of as we speak.
My point in bringing any of this up again is that, the reason this is all still so fresh, despite it nothing has been done about it. We still don’t have a quality winger and it’s plain to see how well Gnabry would fit into the current scheme. That is the part that I can’t get over.
Anyway, I won’t dwell on the point any longer. New era, blah blah, we can all still root for Gnabry and try not to think about how perfect of a fit he would be in the current squad.
