Arsenal still haven’t done anything this transfer window, so all I want to know is, quite simply, when the f*** is that going to change?

Maybe I’m jumping the gun on my outrage, but here we are about to turn over into July and Arsenal don’t look to be any closer to signing anyone than they were a month ago. Meanwhile, the list of transfer ins and outs for the Premier League is populating.

We knew this transfer window was going to be hard, but it’s going to be a lot harder if we keep waiting to make that first signing. Sure, the price has to be right, and the price never seems to be right with this club, but there are plenty of affordable options out there that fit in our £40m price range even without having to sell anyone.

Which, by the way, it really shouldn’t be that hard to sell a player like Shkodran Mustafi or Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The point of these sales is to be rid of them. Sure, you want the best return you can get, but the main objective is clearing house.

Every rumor this far into the summer has taken the exact same path. Step 1, Arsenal bid for a modest amount that has everyone excited. Step 2, it gets rejected and a price is set. Step 3, another bid is submitted under that price. Step 4, that bid is rejected. Step 5, silence.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

It’s happened for Alexis Claude-Maurice, Joachim Andersen, Dennis Praet, William Saliba, Hakim Ziyech and more. All guys that have been within our transfer budget, all guys that have either declared for another team, or have had their link cast into doubt.

At some point, we’re going to have to pull the trigger. Especially with all these players announcing that they’re going to leave – Joachim Andersen and Hakim Ziyech, for instance. Both have said they’re looking for bigger and better things, both fit within the Gunners’ transfer budget, and honestly, you give me those two guys and it’s a successful window, case closed.

It’s frustrating, really, to see the team struggle so much last year and then struggle even more in the transfer window to get a deal done. We don’t have to solve everything in this one window, so long as we improve the club.

But that starts with actually doing something. Like making a successful bid, completing a deal and announcing the damn thing.
