4. He’s not Stephan Lichtsteiner

Another argument I’ve heard is that we should have learned from Stephan Lichtsteiner. That somehow, Ivan Perisic and the 34-year-old Swiss rightback are one in the same. But this is complete poppycock.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

People also complained about Sokratis, remember? A 30-year-old wantaway couldn’t possibly be a solution, could he? But he was. He was a major solution whose only flaw was that there wasn’t more of him to go around.

I don’t understand why people bypass that comparison and instead compare him to Lichtsteiner, who is nearly half a decade older and who came over on a free.

I honestly don’t think the Gunners would have spent actual money on Lichtsteiner. I think that the free aspect is what made him appealing at all. They took a stab, it didn’t pay off, nothing lost. No big deal.

Perisic won’t be free, he’ll be an actual investment, and that’s okay. That means that I’m clearly not the only one who thinks that he’s a fantastic idea.

On to No. 3.
