Arsenal vs Crystal Palace: 5 key players to make it three straight
By Josh Sippie
4. Mesut Ozil
A lot of what I said about Alexandre Lacazette can also be applied to Mesut Ozil. Ozil has been remarkably consistent lately. He’s not ghosted a match since Arteta’s arrival and, if anything, he’s been one of our more reliable players. Somehow, Arteta has figured out a way to get Ozil into space, and that being the case, he has started to skew more towards a consistently positive output.
He hasn’t yet registered a goal or an assist, which may seem like a major drawback, but he’s been a free-flowing attacker who has been on the cusp of something truly special for awhile now.
Frankly, if Lacazette’s pendulum is swinging back towards the breakout, I have to believe that Ozil’s is even further towards the same.
Not that we necessarily need for him to break out though. We really just need him to be his new self. We need him to lead the attack, to link it up and to create opportunities for the elite attackers around him. That isn’t too much to ask. At least not anymore.
Next up, No. 3.
