Midfield

A lot clicked against Newcastle, and that came from a sturdy midfield effort. Their ability to adjust to the situation and link together the defense to the attack—obviously so important for a team playing out from the back—was massive. And it will continue to prove massive against Everton, as we see the same midfield three that we saw against the Magpies.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Granit Xhaka will keep his spot. His early yellow card against Newcastle left him in a tight spot, but he adapted to his situation, kept Dani Ceballos well fed and did his part to see the match to its successful conclusion.

Speaking of which, Ceballos will be back as well. His long-awaited return to form was tremendous. He carried the ball masterfully, created chances from all over the place, and should be called on to do the same thing here against Everton. Which is the trick—doing the same thing. Something he hasn’t yet proven capable of.

Lastly, Mesut Ozil will round off the midfield in the No. 10 role. He was subtly brilliant against Newcastle and he has to do that difficult task of delivering a repeat performance. Always a tough ask, especially for him, but it’s more than a little important.

And finally, we move on to the attack.
