1. Way out there

By weird, I of course mean not in a 4-2-3-1, but rather in a 4-4-2. And again, bear in mind I love how this attack looks right now, so I’m not complaining, I’m just looking at another way that Arteta could deploy to keep things fresh.

What Arteta could do is start two strikers up top, obviously Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and then either Lacazette or Nketiah. On either side of the midfield four, we’d have Nicolas Pepe and Saka/Martinelli. Again, both of them have good defensive work rates, so we aren’t losing any defensive contributions here.

The downfall is no Ozil. Instead, we’d have a base of Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos.

The reason that doesn’t particularly bother me is because while Ozil has been good, he hasn’t been irreplaceable good, and this would also mean that we could get to have two natural wingers, like we would have in the previous option. But this time we don’t lose the striking force either.

I’m still not convinced Ozil has turned it all around, and I’m not totally convinced that this attack would necessarily sag without him. Not if Xhaka and Ceballos are fit and firing, that is.

Again, I am thrilled with our attack, but I’m just exploring other potential options, as well as ways that it could get even better.
