2. The defense

Before Arteta took over, if you asked fans what the biggest problem at the club was, they would all say the same thing—the defense. When you’ve got Calum Chambers out for the year and the fate of the club resting with David Luiz, Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi, there are problems.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Not with Arteta though. With those three guys, Sokratis deputizing at rightback now, Arteta has turned this defense into one of the three best in the league. Since taking over, in ten Premier League matches, this defense has only given up nine goals. That’s level with Sheffield United for third-best in the league behind just Liverpool and City.

And he’s doing it all with Luiz and Mustafi in the center of the back four.

What happens when Arteta gets Chambers back and when William Saliba officially joins the club? What happens if we go out and get a Jonathan Tah or a Dayot Upamecano? This defense will get even better and with a full year under Arteta, they will stand as one of the best in the league.

All through a philosophical change to the club that’s making our defense suddenly competent. Hallelujah.

Finally, No. 1.
