Arsenal Reloaded: 5 things we learned from Leicester City win
1. Welcome to Arsenal, Alexandre Lacazette
It took Alexandre Lacazette just two minutes to announce his arrival as Arsenal’s new club-record signing. The Frenchman was signed in a £47 million move in the summer as the Gunners looked to add elite striking quality to the squad. And based on this performance, they might have done precisely that.
The striker scored a deft header in the second minute. Mohamed Elneny’s first-time cross in the penalty area dropped the ball into a dangerous area, and after Lacazette cleverly drifted away from Wes Morgan to find space, he directed a header into the bottom corner to hand Arsenal the lead.
His overall play was also encouraging. His touch was controlled, he was strong enough to handle the physical presence of the Leicester centre-backs, and if not for being starved off service, his sharpness in and around the penalty area might have provided more returns.
In Lacazette, then, it seems as though Arsenal might just have that elite centre-forward they have been requiring. Perhaps he will win a Player of the Season one day?
