What Now for Arsenal and Odsonne Edouard?

While Leicester’s cooled interest will have opened the door for Arsenal, it could be one they’re not particularly keen on entering. As stated, none of the eager parties have been swayed by his form this season even if he’s still averaging a goal every 1.7 matches.

How he fares for the remainder of the campaign will have an impact on what happens next, so too will the outcome of the Gunners’ season. Returning to Europe will provide them with the financial windfall they desperately crave to kick-start their summer rebuild.

However, if Mikel Arteta doesn’t fancy Edouard then so be it. He’s after a certain profile in the centre-forward role and while the Celtic’s man is one of the more complete strikers of his age bracket in Europe, that feeling must not be shared by Arteta.

Attitude is vital in the players Arsenal are pursuing as they must fall in line with the culture being built in north London, and if Edouard’s form is a result of his lack of desire or professionalism to the Celtic cause as he has his mind set on moving elsewhere, that wouldn’t sit well with Arteta.

There is, of course, a tactical approach to this. Arsenal, just like other sides, may leave the waters untested with over two months left until the window opens, by which time they can survey general opinion and make their move accordingly to the market’s activity.
