Alexis Sanchez Runs Riot for Arsenal – 2016/2017

Alexis Sánchez joined Arsenal from Barcelona in the summer of 2014 with a lot of buzz and excitement. It didn’t take him long to settle in and he quickly became an important part of Arsenal’s attack.

In his first season with the Gunners, he scored an impressive 25 goals in 52 appearances in all competitions. This included a stunning goal in Arsenal’s 4-0 FA Cup final victory over Aston Villa and he easily won Arsenal’s Player of the Season award for 2014/2015.

Sanchez performed well in his second season in the Premier League but missed several matches due to injury. Despite this setback, he finished the 2015/2016 campaign with 17 goals in 41 total appearances.

Sanchez was just getting warmed up, as his best season in London would come in 2016/2017. After winning the Copa América with Chile and being named the tournament’s best player, he returned to London ready to get going again.

His regular goal output included a brace in a 4-1 win at Sunderland in October, where he recorded his 50th goal in his 106th appearance for the club. In December he ran the show at West Ham with a hat-trick and an assist in his side’s 5-1 win. By Christmas, he had already scored 13 times.

The Chilean also played an integral role in Arsenal’s FA Cup run. He scored in extra time to give the Gunners’ a 2–1 win over Manchester City in the semi-finals at Wembley before giving his side an early lead in the final against Chelsea with a goal in the 4th minute. The Gunners went on to win the club’s 13th FA Cup 2-1.

He finished the season with 30 goals and 17 assists in all competitions and was named Arsenal Player of the Season: 2016–17 for the second time.
