Arsenal CEO Vinai Venkatesham has left his position as a board member of the European Club Association (ECA) less than 40 days after being appointed into the position as the club makes the next step in breaking away from UEFA competition and joining the European Super League.

Manchester United, Juventus, AC Milan, Inter and all the founding member sides of the Super League have followed suit. The ECA, which is the only independent body directly representing football clubs at European level, have joined the major footballing bodies as well as fans in opposing the proposals being.

Plans led by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli, Liverpool’s John W. Henry, Manchester United’s Joel Glazer and Arsenal’s Stan Kroenke will see 15 ‘founding’ clubs form a new Super League to rival the UEFA Champions League, with a league system seeing team compete alternatively to the 36-team model used in the UEFA competition.

Arsenal would join with the comfort of never being relegated from the setup, much in the way the United Kingdom always finish bottom of the Eurovision Song Content but are still there again next year to compete with another awful dance-pop track.

Arsenal and Vinai Venkatesham leave European Club Association (ECA) in a major step towards European Super League

For context, Vinai Venkatesham, only became a board member in March 8. This is how quickly, and selfishly, these plans have been fast-tracked.

"At the time, an Arsenal representative said: “We’re delighted that Vinai has been appointed to the European Clubs’ association board.“The ECA represents clubs across Europe and is central to helping shape the future of the game with UEFA and FIFA.”"

‘The future of the game with UEFA and FIFA’… that lasted long. And it will come as little surprise to hear that Raul Sanllehi has been involved.

Competition, the very spirit of the game as we know it, would be forgotten. Matches will come and go with no incentives to win. Turn up and collect your pay packet.

All of this is moving with electrifying pace to rival the announcements of reform for the Champions League. Plans are already in place to have this new league start in the summer, as stated on the Super League’s statement, it “is intended to commence as soon as practicable.”

Next. European Super League. dark

Of course, there are multiple hurdles to overcome before that stage, but everything is moving very quickly.
