Arsenal head into the summer transfer window with a slim number of players that if approached with the right offer wouldn’t be sold. The likes of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe feature in that list, as does Kieran Tierney.

Across the years of failed recruitment that has taken place at Arsenal since the Emirates Stadium move there have been some standout additions. Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are a few of the players who joined as ‘marquee’ acquisitions, while elsewhere there have been some solid, less ‘statement’ signings.

One that is only in its infancy but is destined to go down as one of the most successful in recent memory is Kieran Tierney, and the newest developments are sure to please even the most disheartened supporters this summer transfer window.

As per football.london, talks are underway to tie the left-back down to new contract. Most wonderful news.

Arsenal in Kieran Tierney talks over vital new contract as Arteta looks to tie down left-back during summer transfer window

Looking at a club that has been progressively declining in the Premier League, those who can help return Arsenal back up into the upper levels of the division are few and far between. Tierney is one of them.

If Arsenal are to build a side for the future and reestablish themselves as a Champions League outfit, they will need the Scot. Hearing that his future is being eyed as an essential piece of that complicated puzzle is a step in the right direction.

The 24-year-old made 27 Premier League appearances under Mikel Arteta last season, being one of few positives as the Gunners finished in a lowly eighth place. Technical director Edu is now in the process of presenting a proposed contract offer for the Arsenal board to sign off, which will then be presented to Tierney.

It’s added that Tierney is happy in London and under Arteta, which will help negotiations. Still with three years left on his contract, cementing his place in the side beyond then is the proactive level of planning that this club has failed to deliver on for a frightening length of time.

Now due to be part of the revised ‘leadership group’ at Arsenal, it does feel like a matter of time before the former Celtic man dons the armband such a large majority of the fanbase believe he is worthy of.

Parallel to that, Emile Smith Rowe is also in talks to sign an extension. While a new contract is not as ‘close’ as some outlet suggest, there is confidence on all sides that the 20-year-old will put pen to paper on fresh terms.

dark. Next. Huge White deal

Appointing head of football operations Richard Garlick to leading contract negotiations was a wise move on Arsenal’s part – words rarely uttered.
