Arsenal and their search for midfielders this summer has seen their net cast far and wide across the continent for players of varying skillsets in numerous divisions. No two players looked at are the same and Eduardo Camavinga is widely regarded as a unique talent.

Is he a feasible option this summer though? Led to believe that Mikel Arteta’s list of preferred Thomas Partey partners is about ten names long, the case for Camavinga has come across as one that is mostly fan led.

Some players can be peddled into actual targets when in truth the club are nowhere to be seen. Jack Grealish was a prime example earlier in the summer to the point where his signature was the supporters’ most desired that there was a belief the club felt likewise.

He will cost over £100m and nothing suggests Arsenal have any concrete interest whatsoever.

Camavinga finds himself in a similar boat even if a few faint murmurs had emerged from within France that he was the Gunners’ number one target. Elsewhere such rumours were shot down and labelled as ‘rubbish‘, yet still he couldn’t escape the fans’ minds.

That’s almost entirely down to his immense talent and projected world-class status – a remarkable young footballer with all the potential to become one of the best in his position. Given he has only one year left on his Rennes contract, plays on the left of central midfield and is an apparent Arsenal fan, the clamour is strong.

Yet for a player coveted across Europe, namely with sides boasting Champions League football like Manchester United who are in contact, the price of any deal and allure elsewhere will severely hamper Arsenal’s chances.

With the latest developments on his asking price, however, any side in need of a No. 6, or even if not, will have had their ears perked up. As per Fabrizio Romano, the money needed to prise him away from Rennes is a measly €30m.

This is the figure where the Ligue 1 outfit would negotiate as they slash their previous valuation over fears of losing him for free in 12 months’ time.

It’s been a long-running saga hinging on whether Camavinga would be willing to sign a new deal at Rennes or not. Any extension would likely only keep him at the club for one more season, but it would mean Les Rennais could scoop a far higher fee, one more reflective of his talent, in the future.

Surely out of Arsenal’s reach though?
