While the English world mourns the most crushing defeat its footballing history, clubs have their own issues to focus on. Especially Arsenal, who have a fairly considerable amount of jobs to tackle.

Taking on Hibernian in the first game of their pre-season tour on Tuesday, supporters, and Mikel Arteta, would ideally have preferred more than one new player joining up with the group.

Nuno Tavares is the only addition so far this summer despite the window opening more than a month ago, and while Albert Sambi Lokonga is an isolation period away from joining him, he’s still not going to feature until the tour of the United States.

A large part of the sluggishness of the window for many clubs, not just in the Premier League, has been the ongoing European Championships. With Copa America also taking place, deals have been significantly harder to strike with so much of the talent desired featuring in the respective tournaments.

Arsenal to intensify ‘imminent’ Ben White transfer from Brighton this summer window following England’s Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy

While he didn’t play a single minute of England’s seven matches en route to the final, Ben White finds himself in the aforementioned position.

Arsenal have been pursuing the signature of the central defender for most of the summer, with two bids being lodged and turned down so far. Due to White being with the national squad the deal has been tough to pull off.

The latest update comes from Brighton journalist Aden-Jay Wood, who has been covering the story since the beginning. It’s stated that Arsenal are very confident a deal can be wrapped up ‘imminently’, with the Euros being completed meaning the Gunners will intensify their pursuit.

Nonetheless, the Seagulls are still hoping for more interest to be drummed up elsewhere in the hopes of triggering a bidding war. They’ve been eyeing such approaches to extract maximum value from the 23-year-old, however, said interested parties believe the Arsenal deal is ‘done’.

White will, rightly, be granted time away from football on holiday having yet to have his cool-down time since the last Premier League season concluded, albeit unfortunate for Arsenal should they sign him.

Arteta is short on central defenders with William Saliba due to leave on loan and Gabriel being out for an indefinite amount of time with a knee injury, thus this is a deal that needs getting over the line quickly. That can be said for all future transfers in truth, since outside interest could have an impact and the sooner players are brought in to be integrated the better.
