Arsenal Consider Adding Calum Chambers in James Maddison Transfer Offer

An interesting ploy could be afoot. How successful it would be is another matter entirely.

As per football.london, Arsenal may include Calum Chambers in their offer for Maddison as they seek to find solutions to bringing down Leicester’s huge asking price.

While naturally a right-back – Leicester currently have three on their books in James Justin, Ricardo Pereira and Timothy Castagne – they have precious little in the heart of defence, where Chambers can play.

Where the basis for this plot may arise is in the Foxes’ interest in Chambers back in 2017, when Arsenal turned down a £20m offer.

It’s some stretch to imagine that the club, who’ve had two permanent managers since, are still going to want the same players having revamped their squad and style since. May sound logical in theory but not so much in reality.

However, with Arsenal considering the inclusion of Chambers it does indicate that there is some belief that both a new right-back can be sourced and that Hector Bellerin can be sold. Given that the former Southampton man is the Gunners’ first choice option in the side there would have to be assurances that another right-back can be signed.

Having Bellerin and Cedric as the two choices, or even just Cedric, is a worrying predicament even if Maitland-Niles is somehow kept on and convinced to play in the position, which is highly unlikely.

Amid all of the efforts to lower Leicester’s asking price, Arsenal need just pay up. It’s normal to negotiate and try to find other methods of payment but it appears more clear than ever that simply paying what the Foxes want will secure this deal.
