Arsenal vs Leeds preview: How to watch, top four chance, prediction, lineups, live stream
Arsenal are firmly in the business end of the season as they host Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium for their 35th game of the Premier League season on Sunday. Here is the match preview.
As Sir Alex Ferguson famously dubbed it, this is squeaky bum time. This team obviously isn’t competing for a league title but in the context of their season it’s the biggest and only target remaining for them.
Heading into the weekend with a two point advantage over Tottenham, if all goes to plan then this could be one of the defining moments of the entire campaign.
Attentions are understandably looking ahead to a mouth-watering North London Derby coming up on matchday 36, although depending on how this next round of fixtures goes the context of that game could change dramatically.
Arsenal vs Leeds preview: How to watch, Premier League top four chances, score prediction, predicted lineups & more
Looking at the worst possible outcome, Arsenal could make the journey up the Seven Sisters Road trailing Spurs by a single point. If they fall to defeat at home to Leeds and Antonio Conte’s men spring a surprise at Anfield, the onus will be on the Gunners to secure their first away league victory over their bitter rivals since 2014. That is pressure nobody can bear.
In ideal circumstances the gap between the north London sides could be five points in favour of Mikel Arteta’s men. For that to be the case they will need to see off Leeds at home and hope Liverpool continue asserting their dominance with a home win over Spurs.
Remember the last time Arsenal wanted a title challenger to do them a favour in the Premier League? Manchester City lost 3-2 at home to Tottenham. It’s dangerous to get hopes up.
But they have their own game to deal with, one that comes a day after Spurs play.
Leeds are fighting for their lives at the bottom end of the table and are at serious risk of dropping back down into the Championship at the second time of asking. They sit just two points ahead of Everton in the table – who occupy the final relegation spot – having played a game more, and are level on points with Burnley. However, their hideous goal difference could potentially be their undoing.
They absolutely have to get points. As do Arsenal. Take nothing for granted in this league, ever.
