Eddie Nketiah is set to sign a new long-term contract with Arsenal after rejecting proposals from other Premier League clubs and the Bundesliga.

The young striker appeared set to leave the Gunners at the end of the 2021/22 season with his contract running down, but an impressive resurgence to round off the campaign has seemingly convinced Nketiah to commit his future to Arsenal.

After failing to make a single start during the first half of the season, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s departure and Alexandre Lacazette’s poor form presented the Englishman with an opportunity.

He was a feature of Mikel Arteta’s starting XI down the stretch as he scored five times in Arsenal’s last seven games.

While some would be hesitant to offer Eddie a new deal, the player’s impressive performances to round off the campaign have convinced the boss that he’s worth having around for the long haul.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Nketiah’s new long-term contract is in the process of being finalised and it’s expected to be a five-year deal.

Despite this latest update, Arsenal should still bring in two forward reinforcements this summer. Alongside Gabriel Jesus, whose versatility enables him to perform various attacking functions, a target-man profile will likely be targeted.

And while Nketiah showed promise towards the back end of last season, he isn’t a striker that should be at the forefront of the club’s rebuild.

But, he does have talent and his work ethic – when motivated – is off the charts. Nketiah’s a dogged channel-runner who links play nicely and can serve as an outlet in transition. He also excels in the penalty box and is a striker who will simply score goals for a side like Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

Still, Nketiah will have to prove himself once more at the start of next season. Although, he will have several opportunities to impress with Arsenal returning to the Europa League.
