Is there anyone else who would secure the top spot on this list? Fans have been justified in their raising of questions about Saliba’s transfer. Three years on from his move and he has yet to play for Arsenal beyond a preseason and youth games. Yet Arteta has also been justified in sending him out on loan.

The Frenchman has gotten valuable minutes at Nice and Marseille which he most likely would not have gotten in London. He has continued to grow and develop at a solid pace, ironing out certain weaknesses in his game. If he returns this summer, he will do so as a more experienced, mature and well-rounded player.

He now has the platform and stability at the club that he needs to thrive. Let’s hope he does so.

Arsenal’s use of the loan system has signaled a break from past inefficiency. They have used the system to improve the potential transfer value of their players while ensuring their development is not stunted. The three players discussed above deserve a chance to fight for their place in the squad.
