Arsenal’s starboy had a superb season in 2021/22, but there are fresh rumours that Manchester City could come calling soon – a thought that sends shivers down the spine.

Bukayo Saka is Arsenal through and through. Coming from our esteemed Hale End academy, the lively winger has taken all before him since his arrival onto the first-team scene,

From being a substitute to becoming a starter for Arsenal and swiftly earning England call-ups, the 20-year-old is one of the brightest talents on the planet, and he is ours… for now.

With the Premier League season done and dusted, every team has turned their attention to the transfer window.

One rumour that has been circulating of late is Manchester City’s interest in Saka. Yes, you read that right—the doomsday scenario for everyone involved with the club. Perhaps one of the world’s wealthiest clubs is keeping a close eye on our starboy.

The Robin van Persie to Manchester United and Samir Nasri to City moves spring immediately to mind as dark moments in the club’s recent history. With the homegrown Saka, seeing him move onto bigger and better things in the domestic sphere would be an impossible pill to swallow. His exit could potentially tear apart the entire fabric of the club considering just how important he is to Mikel Arteta’s rebuild.

The young winger is Arsenal through and through. The thought of Pep Guardiola having him in sky blue is enough to make Gooners heave.

Arsenal must tie Bukayo Saka down to a new deal

With two years left on his deal, Arsenal and Arteta must do everything possible to ward off potential suitors, even if that means breaking the wage structure. He is too vital to the club.

There is no Champions League for Arsenal to use as a sweetener this season for Saka, so it must be financial for the 20-year-old, and it must be done quickly. The longer this situation goes unresolved, the more problematic it becomes.

His 11 goals and seven assists in 38 league games last season depict his talent and how crucial he is to the Gunners in the final third. Scarily, the 20-year-old will only get better, too.

He is already terrorising defences at his tender age. What will he be able to do in two years when he is physically stronger and quicker? That is a scary thought. But a more frightening concept is losing him to a domestic rival before he’s helped return Arsenal to the promised land.

We’ve been here before. Arsenal’s top players run down their contracts, hold the club at their mercy and then inevitably go to greener pastures. This cannot happen again. Not with Saka.

The club should throw the kitchen sink, the laundry, the loungeroom, and everything in between to retain one of the best talents in world football.

The sooner it gets done, the better with the likes of Manchester City sniffing around. Saka’s love for the club and its supporters is undeniable. But, on the flip side, money talks. What City could offer compared to Arsenal are a million miles apart.

Saka is the fabric of the team, and the Gunners need to extend his deal. Arteta says he has every intention to sign him and the club must try to strike a deal before the start of the 2022/23 campaign. Otherwise, a dark, grey cloud will hang over the Emirates.

Give him whatever he wants. Just get the deal done, Arsenal.
