Arsenal Transfers: Gunners agree fee with Manchester City for Gabriel Jesus
By Adam Schultz
After a long, drawn-out process, it appears that Arsenal are finally moving towards securing Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City with a fee reportedly now agreed.
One of the worst kept secrets of Arsenal’s summer transfer business was their pursuit of Gabriel Jesus. With City signing Erling Haaland, the Brazilians playing time will severely diminish. That allowed the Gunners to swoop.
Arsenal held the inside track in trying to secure Jesus’ services due to the player’s relationship with boss Mikel Arteta. After weeks of little to no movement regarding a deal, it now appears that a fee has been agreed upon.
Per Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have agreed to a £45m deal with City for the 25-year-old with only personal terms to be agreed upon as both sides reached a complete verbal agreement.
It is a great piece of news regarding Arsenal’s top priority this summer. Chelsea and Tottenham were thought to be interested in the forward, but Arteta reportedly sold Jesus on the project and making him the focal point of attack was thought to be the sweetener.
It is a great coup for Arsenal as the player chose a team in the Europa League, over teams in the Champions League. The deal is expected to be signed, sealed, and delivered in the next seven to ten days per Mike Keegan of the Daily Mail.
Looking at the quality of player that Jesus is, the amount reportedly agreed for him is seriously good business for Arsenal. A player in the last year of his contract was always going to leave for cheaper than what City wanted, but £45m is a steal. The Gunners have not overpaid for a player they believe will help solve their striker problems.
Jesus has scored 95 goals and registered 45 assists in his 236 appearances in all competitions for City, and it is hoped that he will add more firepower and a touch of cold-blooded finishing to the Arsenal attack.
It is now thought that once the deal for the City star goes through, the Gunners will turn their attention to Leeds winger Raphinha and make a second bid for the Brazilian.
