The Gunners have everything in place to secure a deal for Youri Tielemans, but a concrete bid has yet to be forthcoming.

Here we sit, after what feels like months since Arsenal registered interest in Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans; with the Belgian’s future still drenched in ambiguity.

The question many have asked is why? With reports stating that the player wants a move to north London with personal terms reportedly being agreed upon, but no official offer has come from the Gunners.

Will Arsenal ever sign Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans?

With the rumoured price set to be around just £30m, given that the Belgian is in the last year of his deal with Leicester, it seems like a no-brainer. So, what is the hold-up?

Many have speculated that the club wanted to secure its priority target in Gabriel Jesus before moving ahead with the midfielder. However, Jesus was announced as an Arsenal player well over a week ago, and still, next to nothing has been done.

Transfer Insider Dean Jones was speaking to GiveMeSport and said that Tielemans is keen to move to north London before adding that he believes Tottenham presents a better fit for the Belgian international.

Jones said:

"“I think Tielemans would make sense for Arsenal. I think the level of experience he has in the Premier League would count for a lot right now.“I think he is keen on joining Arsenal, although I think Spurs are a better fit because he wants to prove he’s a Champions League player, and obviously Arsenal aren’t in the Champions League right now.”"

Even with the Gunners not in Europe’s premier club competition, it appears that the north Londoners still have quite a bit of pull in the transfer market.

Midfield is perhaps the area of the team that needs to be strengthened the most now that the club’s attacking reinforcement in Jesus has arrived. Arsenal simply can’t go into the Premier League season, with the only addition to the midfield being Fabio Vieira.

The mere thought of Granit Xhaka partnering with Thomas Partey against Crystal Palace is not what the fans are after. That is no slight on Xhaka, as he was extremely consistent last season and they were extremely effective as a pair, but there needs to be an upgrade, and that is believed to be Tielemans.

There is a thought as to why Arsenal are dragging its feet in this deal. No other teams seem too keen on the Belgian. With one year remaining on his deal and the player hoping to move on this summer, the Gunners can simply wait until they want to do business.

There is a pitfall to that, however. The time wasted waiting could have been used to get Tielemans acclimatised to the squad and Arteta’s way of playing.

At one point, it seemed like when, not if, Tielemans would be signed. But after weeks and weeks of dragging this deal out, many are questioning whether Arsenal will ever sign the 25-year-old.
