3 players most affected by impending Oleksandr Zinchenko arrival
By Krish Ajmani
2. Nuno Tavares
Nuno Tavares had a difficult time against Orlando City. The one goal that Arsenal conceded was a simple ball over the top which the Portuguese man completely lost sight of. The MLS side targeted the left hand side of the defence again and again, putting pressure on a defensively poor player until he cracked and the side scored.
Zinchenko comes in with obvious implications for Tavares. The former Manchester City man arrives with obvious pedigree. While he will be hoping to play in the centre of the park for Arsenal, he will also fill in for Kieran Tierney as needed, leaving Tavares as third-choice and thus surplus to requirements.
Rumours of a loan move arose but then dissipated earlier in the summer. With the Ukraine international confirmed to be an Arsenal player, talks of loans have come up once again. Marseille and Brighton are both clubs that have interest in the left-back and both would be invaluable to his development.
Marseille and Arsenal have a strong working relationship which should aid negotiations for the full-back. William Saliba played and thrived there, while Matteo Guendouzi was loaned out and eventually sold to the French side. There is no doubt that Tavares would play if he were to go to Marseille.
Brighton offer other benefits. Tavares would play under a great manager in Graham Potter while also accruing minutes in the Premier League. With Marc Cucurella flirting with Manchester City, Tavares could quickly become a starter for the Seagulls.
Away from the limelight and with his errors less likely to be put microscope, Tavares could return a more intelligent and defensively sound player.
