Goalkeeper Bernd Leno has completed his move to newly promoted Fulham, which brings an end to his long stay in north London.

German shot-stopper Bernd Leno is now officially a Fulham player. Yesterday, various outlets reported that all details had been agreed upon between Arsenal and Fulham, with only a medical to seal the deal.

The keeper has signed a three-year contract with The Cottagers in a deal that is worth up to £8m after add-ons, per David Ornstein of The Athletic.

The 30-year-old fell behind the pecking order at Arsenal after Aaron Ramsdale was signed from Sheffield United last summer. He only made eight appearances across all competitions last season as Ramsdale established himself as the undisputed number one keeper.

With the World Cup on the horizon, Leno needed to make a move to ensure he gets ample game time so that he is part of Germany’s squad, and with his move to Fulham, it is widely expected that he will be the newly promoted team’s number one keeper.

Leno joined the Gunners in a £20m deal before the 2018/19 season after impressing in the German Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen.

The 30-year-old spoke to FFCtv and was ecstatic to join the club.

"“It feels amazing to finally be here. I can’t wait to join the team, to train and play with the team,” Leno said.“I’m relieved that everything is done. I’m just happy to be here. It took a little bit of time but in the end we made it, and that’s the most important thing.”"

The move is great for both parties as Fulham gets an experienced goalkeeper and a superb shot-stopper while the Gunners add to their transfer budget and get the German’s wages off the books.

With no incomings of late, attention is turning to outgoings with Leno leading the way and Pablo Mari and Lucas Torreira to follow suit out the Emirates door.

The move for Leno is critical if he is to book a spot in Germany’s World Cup squad, and he will get his chance as he will no doubt be between the sticks for Fulham this Premier League season.
