Arsenal welcome Leicester to the Emirates for their opening home game of the 2022/23 season on Saturday afternoon.

The Gunners’ campaign began superbly on opening night as they overcame Crystal Palace 2-0 at Selhurst Park. Mikel Arteta’s side impressed many in south London, but the boss will know that there’s still much more to come from his dynamic young side.

Arsenal produced two of their most impressive performances of last season against Leicester, and they’ll have another chance to send another statement out to the rest of the Premier League with a vulnerable Foxes arriving in north London this weekend.

Brendan Rodgers still has plenty of talent at his disposal, but Leicester’s transfer business this summer has been questionable. They’re certainly not in a great position to once again compete for the European spots, and their mental frailties were on full display last weekend as they surrendered a two-goal lead at home to Brentford.

Timothy Castagne and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall got the Foxes off to the perfect start, but goals from Ivan Toney and Josh Dasilva ensured that the spoils were shared at the King Power.

Arsenal Team News

The Gunners appear to be injury-free heading into the weekend.

Emile Smith Rowe, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Fabio Vieira were pictured in training in the week and each player could make Mikel Arteta’s bench on Saturday.

Ben White was also spotted with heavy strapping on his knee, but he isn’t believed to be a doubt for the home opener.

Arteta is expected to name the same starting XI that beat Palace 2-0 on opening night.

Leicester Team News

Wesley Fofana started against Brentford amid heavy transfer speculation and the young French defender is expected to retain his spot in Rodgers’ XI.

The Foxes, however, will be without Harvey Barnes and Ryan Bertrand due to knee injuries, while Ricardo Pereira’s rotten injury luck has continued. The Portuguese full-back is poised to be out for six months after rupturing his Achilles tendon.

Youri Tielemans will have a chance to impress his potential future employers in midfield.

Rodgers’ Leicester have caused us problems in the past, but they were blown away by the Gunners twice last season.

Arteta’s side are evolving, and while one or two familiar issues cropped up at Selhurst Park, this young outfit have shown they’re a different beast at the Emirates. The Gunners were excellent at home last season, and they’ll be intent on putting on a show for a wildly excited crowd on Saturday.

Leicester are blessed with a bunch of savvy creators and are always a threat in transition, but their defensive frailties will likely undermine their efforts on Saturday. It’ll take a Rodgers masterclass for the visitors to escape north London with anything, and I just don’t see that happening.

A comfortable win for the hosts is in store.

Prediction: Arsenal 3-0 Leicester
